The Return of Obamacare: NEW ENROLLMENT PERIOD!

We know that you all might be a little bit confused, taking into account the fact that we all informed you that the enrollment period was up to January 15th, 2025. However, it’s that time of year again! The new Obamacare enrollment period is now open, and we’re here to help you get enrolled. We know how hard and confusing this enrollment process might get because of all of the information you should be aware of, all of the documents you’re going to need, and even from the start, all of the requirements to be eligible. But that’s why we’re here. We want to offer you a small guide to help you turn this confusing process into a much easier path with Blue Ocean’s help.

Special Enrollment Period

The Obamacare special enrollment period is now open and will be available until December 31st, 2025. This means that if you experience any life changes or events, you’ll be able to sign up for a new plan or make changes to your current one.

What Counts as a Life Change or Special Event?

There are two types of special enrollment periods: qualifying life events and annual open enrollment. If you experience a qualifying life event, such as losing other health coverage, getting married, or having a baby, you generally have 60 days from the date of the event to enroll in a new plan. You can learn more about qualifying life events on https://blueoceanins.com/health-insurance/

If it’s not during the annual open enrollment period and you don’t have a qualifying life event, you can’t sign up for a new plan or make changes to your current one outside of the annual open enrollment period.

What if I Have a Marketplace Plan?

If you have a marketplace plan, you can make changes to your current plan or switch to a new one during the annual open enrollment period. If you experience a qualifying life event, you can also make changes to your current plan or enroll in a new one outside of the annual open enrollment period.

What if I Have a Job-Based Plan?

If you have a job-based plan, your enrollment period generally depends on your employer. For example, if your employer offers an open enrollment period, you can only make changes to your current coverage or enroll in a new plan during that time. However, if you experience a qualifying life event, you may be able to enroll in a new plan or make changes to your current coverage outside of the open enrollment period.

Changes You Can Make to Your Plan

During the special enrollment period, you can:

– Sign up for a new health insurance plan

– Switch from one health insurance plan to another

– Add or remove someone from your current health insurance plan

– Change the type of health insurance plan you have
